I’ve had a bad experience with other psychedelics. Is ketamine similar to LSD, mescaline, MDMA, DMT, etc.?

Unlike traditional psychedelics, ketamine offers a significantly more brief and controlled experience. While the experience can be intense at times, it is one of the safest psychoactive substances, and when administered with the proper guidance, preparation, and setting, can result in profound consciousness-expanding insights associated with other psychedelic medicines.

Is there any discomfort associated with a ketamine treatment?

As with any psychological therapy, ketamine can be challenging because it triggers deep introspection into one’s life experiences, which may  lead to questions about existing thought patterns, habits, and perceived limitations.

Your Transformation Tour Guide is available to help you prepare for the experience by discussing your intentions, answering questions and exploring how ketamine can help you shift distressing patterns and achieve the life experience you desire. After your journey, your Tour Guide will help you to reflect on what you’ve discovered and learn to apply those insights to  your daily life.

What is the ketamine experience?

Ketamine has been labelled a dissociative anesthetic, meaning that it can elicit a sense of disconnection from one’s ordinary reality and usual sense of self. At the dosage level administered in the Transformation retreat, you will most likely experience mild anesthetic, anxiolytic (anxiety reducing), antidepressant effects, as well as mild psychedelic effects. You will likely feel a sense of awe, positive mood, altered perception and cognition, alteration of space and time, and paradoxically being aware of everything that exists – and nothing.

Relaxation from ordinary concerns and usual mind, while maintaining conscious awareness of the flow of mind, is a typical experience while under the influence of ketamine. This tends to lead to a disruption of negative feelings and obsessive  preoccupations, allowing one to open up to other potential states of consciousness.

TRANSFORMATION AT TEN THOUSAND WAVES

Is Ten Thousand Waves becoming a medical facility?

Ten Thousand Waves is not a medical practice or medical facility. We partner with Jinsei LLC – the therapeutic arm of our resort – for ketamine treatments, medical, and other services provided as part of our Transformation retreat. Jinsei contracts with the individual providers of these services.

Why ketamine?

Ketamine tones the activity in the brain’s limbic system, and simultaneously increases the potential for neuroplasticity – the ability of the brain to change and create new connections. Preclinical studies suggest that molecular changes induced by ketamine create large-scale network reconfigurations that might relate to ketamine's antidepressant properties. Engaging with the medicine can offer a brief opportunity to experience ourselves free from long-standing limiting patterns, and we are able to temporarily shift the pain of rigid thinking that inhibits a truly connected, easeful, and liberated life.

Ketamine treatment in a supportive environment offers an opportunity to harvest new insights, expand consciousness, and restore a sense of self. The brain and nervous system change faster with positive inputs, new experiences, and time in nature.

Our specialized team can help you understand how your experience here might best serve you in the future. We can also recommend pathways for ongoing therapy and support.

How do I qualify for Transformation?

Ketamine has shown to be beneficial in alleviating symptoms associated with anxiety, depression, addictive behavior, PTSD, chronic pain and more. If you have seen a medical provider for any of these conditions, we ask for a diagnosis or referral, which can come from your own primary care physician, therapist, or other licensed professional.

How long does the ketamine journey take?

Your ketamine journey lasts approximately one and a half hours. The journey begins with a physical assessment from your medical provider, who will confirm your health status and answer any technical questions you might have. After your medicine journey, you will have the opportunity to share your immediate impressions with your Tour Guide.

Where does the journey take place?

The medicine journey takes place in a private therapy room at Ten Thousand Waves, closely monitored by your medical provider. Your Transformation Tour Guide remain with you throughout your journey, so when you emerge from the deepest part of the experience, you will be eased back to your new reality.

How will I be monitored throughout the journey?

Your Transformation Tour Guide will assist you in processing the experience before, during, and after the ketamine session. Your medical provider will monitor your vital signs during and after your treatment, taking blood pressure and pulse, monitoring breathing, as well as some psychological measurements.

What results can I expect from the ketamine journey?

Your experience will be unique to you. All such journeys are adventures that cannot be programmed. The ketamine experience itself enables you to access your own healing wisdom. You may experience important insights during your session, in the aftermath, and in the days and weeks that follow that affect your personality, mood, and cognition. Often our intentions are addressed by the medicine journey in an abstract, rather than linear, manner. Some experiences may be temporarily challenging for you, but also may prove to be the most valuable.
